Let us lament

Let us lament not our past sins forgotten and tossed to the bottom of eternity’s never-ending well of mercy

drowning regret and every thought or phrase uttered that echoes a sorrow seeping through
into tomorrow’s joy

Let us weep only for today’s unseen twisting & bowing -
our soul’s crooked way of turning toward its own elevation & yearnings that blind us to Truth’s perfect posture

straight
narrow
never-bending or cowering

Let us set ourselves abreast of it

agreeing that we’re bent while receiving with ungritted teeth the immaculate conception of a straightening within

You are endless pinpricks

You are endless like pinpricks of light at night;

those punched holes in the
heavens, the expanse of the universe spoken
and speaking still.

My ears must rest between sentences as I sit and listen to
the gentleness of your tone, the
words double-edged, the laughter of your eyes. I

return
and still it seems I start at the very beginning of all that You are.
It’s a wonder I do anything at all.
